check point hope 2003
AN ULTIMATE URBAN ENCOUNTER
04.-08. November / Valentinskamp 34
Performance with dance, music, video and visual arts in empty buildings

Hamburg is a city where people of different nationalities meet. They shape the image of the city and they are active in all areas of life. Also in art. Human encounters are based on coincidences that give rise to something new. Art lives from encounters with people. "Check point hope" is based on chance encounters, it is a meeting place for artists from various artistic backgrounds and nationalities who live in Hamburg and meet for the first time. “Check point hope” is, so to speak, an invented place in which one meets humanly and artistically. It is ultimately a utopian, hopeful place where anything is possible. Seven artists from the fields of dance, theater, music, video and visual arts will build their performances from improvisations. Artists who live in Hamburg meet for the first time and create an interdisciplinary performance over and over again.
It will be a short encounter that takes place several times a day.
Hamburg is also a city of empty buildings. You can find them everywhere in Hamburg. I see the need to create new spaces for art outside of the established art and theater structures. The opportunity to show “check point hope” in public spaces gives us as artists the chance to create new spaces for our art and to create a fictional space that opens a platform for performers and the audience.
We perform inside the building and we are viewed from the outside.
But people can also go into the building and see everything from the inside. You can also come back in the coming days and witness the development.
Seven artists will be inside the building five days a week, five times a day, bringing it to life with performances from the fields of dance, theater, music, visual arts and video.
We awaken the rooms to a human installation in which an actor, a video artist, a DJ and a visual artist in a group of 3 dancers offer a performance of 10 minutes in the interior for the exterior.
