MICROSPACE

In the performance project MICROSPACE, migration is negotiated as a concept that draws a comparison between the microorganisms that migrate unhindered through our environment and the worldwide migratory movement of people. The performance takes place at Kampnagel between the theater halls as part of the NORDWIND Festival and invites visitors into a world of microorganisms through a scenography colored by them as well as through choreographic interludes and visuals created by them. Dancers from Mexico, Rwanda and India who live and work in Hamburg as well as children and young people from Hamburg communities and schools (around 100) will be involved in the project.

MICROSPACE is a participatory project in which children and young people experience the topic of migration and boundaries from a different perspective during a two-week vacation workshop in autumn 2024: that of microorganisms. By empathizing with the microorganisms and their biogeography (certain microorganisms only occur in certain parts of the world), a self-reflective experience of migration can take place. This approach points to a future in which migratory movement is seen as a natural process of our world. At the same time, the natural movement of microorganisms will be demonstrated, borderless. In three different workshops (research/stage and costume/performance), children explore the world of microorganisms and create an artistic translation in a joint performance under the direction of Hamburg choreographer Yolanda Gutiérrez: MICROSPACE, an interventionist performance-audiowalk in which the audience, equipped with headphones, begins an imaginative journey. MICROSPACE becomes a place of exchange between distant worlds. It performatively and scenically focuses on the polyphony and multidimensionality of our ecosystem and togetherness.
